The Benefits of a Unix Operating System

0 3

Unix is an operating system that has been available for many years. There are various Unix systems that have been developed by different vendors. This means that the systems that are on the market vary in appearance, functionality and non standard features. However there are some features that are common to all Unix systems.

One of the biggest benefits of a Unix operating system is that it is a multi-user and multi-process system. This means that multiple users can execute a Unix shell and applications at the same time from within a single shell.

Programs that are used within the Unix system are usually small and designed to perform a single task. If a new task needs to be completed another program will need to be developed to carry it out. The alternative to this is to combine an existing program into the script.

The processes explained above give the user a number of benefits. Firstly a Unix system is much more stable than other operating systems. Unix crashes far less than a Windows system does.

Users can also save money by using this system on the computer. The cost of a graphical user interface and compiler on a Windows system can cost over two hundred dollars. This figure is not taking into account the price of software such as Microsoft Office. Many people require Office with a Windows system for work and study purposes. In comparison Unix and much of the software designed for it is free.

This system is a highly customizable system that is easy to install. Also there are no true viruses on a Unix system. Hackers generally do not target Unix as the majority of computers run on a Windows operating system. This means that Unix is generally a safe and stable system to use on your computer.
